PERTH AMBOY—The Royal Garden Club By The Bay has been awarded the Ringwood Garden Club Trophy by The Garden Club Of New Jersey for decorating the Proprietary House for the last Christmas season.
Twenty members of the Perth Amboy garden club volunteered their time and talent to further enhance the interior of the Governor’s Mansion, which was the home of Royal Governor William Franklin, Benjamin Franklin’s son.
It is the sixth time that the club has received recognition for their work at the house during the Yuletide season, having won the Certificate With Gold Seal five times in the past. The theme was to make each room different, which was accomplished by using a variety of festive greens, ribbons, dried flowers, china, angels, and a shimmering Christmas tree.
Kathy Muir, the chair of the decorating committee for the last three years, enjoys sharing her decorating skills with the other women on this project.
Muir said, “Everyone is so cooperative. Many members are very creative. They have wonderful ideas. Each year is better than the year before.”
Muir and her husband have been volunteers at the historic residence since 1982 and she presently serves as a trustee.
