Sayreville Senior Attacked & Robbed

SAYREVILLE – An 86-year-old Sayreville man was attacked and robbed in his Main Street home Wednesday morning, according to police.

The victim told police that he answered a knock at his side door. Two men, who carried a box as if making a delivery, pushed the elderly resident back into his kitchen, police said.

One of the robbers struck the victim on the head with a handgun and they forced him into his bedroom, police said. One robber held the victim down while the second grabbed cash from a dresser drawer, police said.

Police responded to a 911 call at about 11:30 a.m. The victim was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment of a head laceration that was not life-threatening, police said.
