Rahway Teen Wins Cross Country Crown
RAHWAY—Nichelle Harris recently became Rahway High School’s second Union County Cross Country Champion and the first since 1994.
It was a special moment for Harris, who had become Homecoming Queen a few days earlier. Her coach, Leon Bunion, congratulated her on her coronation, saying, “Now that you are Queen of Rahway, it’s time to become Queen of Union County”.

Harris ran the race stride for stride with defending champion and rival, Ines Simones of Roselle Catholic, defeating her toward the end by 15 seconds.
Harris has had a phenomenal season so far. With only the state championships left, Harris has won both the Union County Conference Mountain Division Title as well as the Union County Championship Title.
Harris has also broken her own school record several times this year and is ranked top 20 in the state by the Star-Ledger. She has also been awarded Athlete of the Week honors by both the Star-Ledger and The Home News Tribune.
Harris is currently being recruited by Division I college programs such as Seton Hall University, University of Maryland-College Park, Hampton University, University of Connecticut and the University of Miami.
