Benedictine Academy Students Take Part In Honors Symposium

ELIZABETH—Dr. Christopher Bellitto (pictured, far right), Assistant Professor of History at Kean University in Union, addresses students in Benedictine Academy’s Honors Latin class during a recent visit to the all-female Catholic college prep high school in Elizabeth.

Dr. Bellitto spoke on the topic Jerusalem: History of a City of Joy and of Sorrow, as part of an Honors Symposium held for St. Scholastica Scholar students at the Academy. The St. Scholastica Scholar students take additional courses beyond the normal college preparatory track including two years of the Latin language and a course in Medical Robotics.

Dr. Bellitto also spoke to U.S. Honors History students at the Academy on the topic of Rome: City of God(s), City of Man. A second symposium is planned for the spring. The goal of the bi-annual Honors Symposium is to provide the honors students with an opportunity to meet college professors and research scholars who can provide an experience of scholarship on the college level to enhance the students’ academic development.
