NJCU Women’s Bowling Opens Season With Three Wins

ELMWOOD PARK—The New Jersey City University women’s bowling team, ranked #8 nationally among Division I, II and III institutions, opened its 10th season on Friday evening, posting a 3-2 record overall while placing fifth overall on day one of the FDU Knights Fall Invite at Parkway Lanes.

NJCU (3-2), competing in five Quad-Baker matches on NCAA Pattern #5—considered the toughest shot in the sport—posted wins over #15 Morgan State University (792-661), Long Island University (656-458), and #13 Adelphi University (701-658), dropping matches to the host team, #3 Fairleigh Dickinson University (736-607) and Florida A&M University (738-717).

After day one of the three-day, 12-team tournament, #6 Delaware State University leads with a 3,858 total pinfall, owning a 51-pin edge over #5 University of Maryland Eastern Shore, which has 3,807 pins. Host FDU is third with 3,714 pins. University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, ranked #16, has 3,493, 20 pins more than the Gothic Knights in fifth place with 3,473. NJCU is six pins in front of sixth-place Sacred Heart University.

In the opening two matches against Morgan State and FDU, the Gothic Knights used a lineup order of sophomore JENNIFER DAUNNO (Carteret, NJ/Carteret), freshman KELLY DAUNNO (Carteret, NJ/Carteret), senior CANDICE D’ANGELO (Coram, NY/Longwood (NY)), senior JENN MARMO (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon (NY)) and junior NICOLE DREJERWSKI (Levittown, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic).

In the final three matches versus LIU, FAMU and Adelphi, Marmo led off, followed by Kelly Daunno and her older sister, Jennifer Daunno, with D’Angelo in the set-up position and Drejerwski anchoring.
