Fight Against Pancreatic Cancer Needs Funding

For years I had heard about the horrors of cancer but never had it affect my life like it did seven years ago.  My father, Richard, lost a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer, devastating our tight-knit family and taking away an active member of the Clark community with the Clark Historical Society as well as a teacher and friend.

With no cure and no early detection method, pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States (76 percent of patients will die in the first 12 months of diagnosis and the five year survival rate is less than 5 percent). Despite the statistics, pancreatic cancer is the most under-funded among leading cancer killers with less than 2 percent of the National Cancer Institutes annual research budget.

November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month and with help from The Windsor Diner, who made a generous donation during our Dining Out for Pancreatic Cancer event, we are one step closer to finding an answer to this awful killer and helping save lives of other family members, community leaders and friends like my father.
