Roselle Police Search For Suspects In Officer’s Shooting

ROSELLE – Roselle Police are searching for two suspects in connection with the shooting of a police officer.

Sgt. John Wyso, a 23-year veteran, was investigating two suspicious males on the 1000 block of Warren Street at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14, police said. After a brief foot pursuit, one of the suspects turned towards Wyso, brandishing a handgun. A struggle ensued which resulted in the suspect’s weapon discharging and striking Wyso in the left hand, police said.


Sgt. Wyso returned fire and both suspects fled on foot and are presently at large, police said. Wyso was transported to Trinitas Hospital in Elizabeth, where he was treated and released.

The suspects are described as two black males wearing dark clothing, police said.

Union County Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for the arrest and indictments of the individual(s) responsible for shooting at Wyso. Anyone with information may call the Crimestoppers Tipline at 1-908-654-TIPS. All calls are strictly anonymous and confidential, authorities said.
