Police Release Sketch Of Burglary Suspect

LINDEN – Police have released a sketch of the suspect in an Oct. 10 burglary. According to police, the suspect is a white or Hispanic male, between 40-50 years old, with white or gray beard stubble.

An 88-year-old resident reported being approached by the suspect, who was wearing a navy blue hat with the words “City of Linden Tax Department” printed on it. According to police, city employees do not wear hats like this.

However, the suspect was able to convince the senior citizen to allow him onto his property to check the property line in his rear yard.

The victim accompanied the suspect for about 20 minutes, but after the suspect left, he discovered his bedroom ransacked and several thousand dollars in cash missing. No other suspects were observed, police said.

“Since that date, we have had other elderly residents approached in the city in possible similar diversion attempts,” Det. Lt. James Sarnicki said. “If residents observe anyone suspicious, they should notify police at once.”

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the burglary to call Detective Andrew Spano at 1-908-474-8537 or email  crimetips@police.lindenes-nj.org.
