Rahway Couple Celebrates Golden Anniversary

RAHWAY – Jean and Joseph Stalevicz of Rahway will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this Saturday. They were married in St. Mary’s Church on Oct. 24, 1959.

Jean was born Jan. 11, 1923 in Elizabeth, the first of eight children. Joseph was born July 14, 1917 in Pennsylvania, the first of five children. They met at the Singer Sewing Machine Plant in Elizabeth.


Joseph is a retired U.S. Postal Service letter carrier who worked in Scotch Plains for 25 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and has been a member of the Rahway Knights of Columbus for over 50 years.

The couple had four children: Dorothy Ann Stalevicz-Saski of Vernon; Joseph Stalevicz II, who passed away Sept. 24, 1995; Nancy Stalevicz, a retired caseworker for the Woodbridge School District; and Gregory H. Stalevicz, who passed away on June 1, 1968 while serving in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.

The couple has three grandchildren: Lisa, 35; Joseph III, 31; and April, 22.
