Biden Visits Edison To Campaign For Corzine

EDISON — Vice President Joseph Biden visited Middlesex County College in Edison today in an attempt to bolster support for New Jersey’s unpopular Democratic governor.

Several hundred people were in attendance, including Perth Amboy Mayor Wilda Diaz, Carteret Mayor Daniel Reiman, freeholders Ronald G. Rios, Carol Barrett, H. James Polos and Stephen J. “Pete” Dalina, and county Democratic party chairman Joseph C. Spicuzzo, who is also the county sheriff.

About a dozen protesters representing the New Jersey College Republicans set up outside the event, carrying signs with messages like, “If you want change, change governors.”

Former President Bill Clinton and President Barack Obama are also scheduled to visit the state this week to campaign for Corzine. It’s not clear if the VIP support will swing voters to Corzine.

Republican candidate Chris Christie’s campaign issued this statement, “While we welcome anyone who wants to come to New Jersey, the reality is these heavy hitters will soon leave and New Jerseyans will still be stuck with the fallout of Governor Corzine’s failed policies: the highest taxes in the country, unemployment near 10 percent (and rising) and an $8 billion budget deficit.”
