ELIZABETH – Elizabeth school officials have advised parents that pre-school students need to receive both a seasonal flu vaccination and a pneumococcal vaccination, or they could find themselves excluded from the classroom after New Years.

The requirement, made by the state Department of Health Services, applies to all children attending licensed childcare centers and preschools. According to state mandates, students must provide proof of vaccination or medical or religious documents that explain a reason for being exempt. School officials request that documentation be provided as soon as possible and no later than Dec. 15.

Uninsured Elizabeth students may qualify to receive the vaccinations at free immunization clinics throughout the city.
