EDISON – A former girls lacrosse and softball coach was sentenced to seven years in the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Avenel for sexually assaulting one girl and endangering the welfare of another by trying to assault her.
David Prongay, 44, pleaded guilty to the charges in July. Prongay told Superior Court Judge Frederick De Vesa in New Brunswick that he sexually assaulted a member of the lacrosse team he coached who was either 13 or 14 between April 1, 2008, and Feb. 1, 2009. Prongay also admitted endangering a member of his softball team by making advances toward her in 2002 when she was 15.
The judge could have sentenced Prongay to a maximum of ten years in prison under the plea agreement.
