A Wonderful Gesture Of Kindness

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

A staff member from our pediatric long term care center in Mountainside was shopping for a new pair shoes for one of our residents.  Often, our staff will take personal time out shop for “our kids.”

When Toni Pulcine, a restorative certified nursing assistant with Children’s Specialized Hospital, arrived at the Kohl’s retail store in South Plainfield, she was approached by a sales associate to help her find a very special pair of sneakers.  These sneakers needed to fit new molded leg splints for a little boy in our care.  After a number of trips back and forth to the store room, the associate finally found a pair of sneakers which fit the child’s new splints perfectly.

The associate said he would hold onto the shoes until Toni was finished with her shopping.  When Toni returned to retrieve her shoes, the associate smiled and said the shoes have already been paid for.  The associate asked me to tell the little boy that “Uncle Dave” had bought him a new pair of shoes.

David Christie, from South Plainfield, purchased the shoes without hesitation.  What a wonderful gesture of kindness.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and we’re sure our little guy loves his new pair of shoes.

Mr. Christie shares his compassionate nature and caring values with his employer, Kohl’s retail stores.  Kohl’s has a long history of supporting Children’s Specialized Hospital and our services.  In fact, just this week Kohl’s visited our inpatient rehabilitation hospital in New Brunswick to present our Foundation with a donation of $420,093.

It’s through their generous support that we have been able to fund many fun community events and vital educational programs that have reached thousands of community members throughout New Jersey.
