Two Union Catholic Girls Named Commended Students

SCOTCH PLAINS–Seniors Jamie Ciocon of Edison and Florianne Jalac of Union have been named Commended Students in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program, Sister Percylee Hart, RSM, the principal of Union Catholic High School, announced.

National Merit Commended Students place among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2010 competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Ciocon is a member of the National Honor Society and Foreign Language Honor Society. She is currently serving as vice president of the Student Council, co-president of the Filipino Club and co-editor of the school newspaper.

Jalac is also a member of both the National Honor Society and Foreign Language Honor Society. She is currently serving as co-president of the Filipino Club, co-leader of the Dance Club and treasurer for the Performing Arts Company.
