CLARK – Senior Emily Vargas is the winner of Arthur L. Johnson High School’s Crusader Award for September.
A four year member of the varsity winter and spring track & field teams, Vargas is ranked fourth in New Jersey in the long jump, and fifth in the state in the high jump and the long jump. She was named by The Star Ledger as the “All Around Performer of the Year,” and was named MVP three times.
Vargas was previously selected as the Distinguished Student in the Field of Fine & Performing Arts by John Woodworth in December 2007. She appeared in “Midsummer Night Dream,” as Celimine in “The Misanthrope,” and in “Moon Over Buffalo.” Vargas has been a member of the Drama Club for the past four years.
Outside of school, Vargas works in her parents’ business and has a part-time job in a local pizzeria. She also does volunteer work at church and babysits. After graduation, she would like to continue competing in track & field in college. Vargas is interested in attending a four year college and majoring in a science based major. Emily is the daughter of Dr. Lawrence and Cheryl Vargas.
