Take The Love Dare—Churches Announce Series On Healthy Marriages

FANWOOD—Couples and all adults interested in improving communications are invited to take a Love Dare. This dare will begin with a free movie night on Saturday, Oct. 17, 6 p.m.

The movie “Fireproof” will be shown at Fanwood Presbyterian Church, 74 South Martine Avenue.  This film stars the classic 80s actor Kirk Cameron. It is about a couple whose marriage is strained to the breaking point.  As this firefighter puts out house fires and saves people’s lives, will he and his wife be able to put out the emotional fires in their home and save their marriage?

After the movie, light refreshments will be available.  Reservations are appreciated by calling 1-908-889-8891, especially if free childcare is needed.

A book called “The Love Dare” challenges the main character in the movie, and will also challenge readers to grow in love for their spouses and build more loving relationships in particular ways every day for forty days and beyond. It is grounded in Christian Biblical teachings about love, forgiveness, trust and healthy communication.

On Saturday, Oct. 24, Presbyterian marriage counselor, The Rev. Dr. Doug Grote, will be leading the second session, which will start with a dinner at 6 p.m. at Willow Grove Presbyterian Church, 1961 Raritan Road, Scotch Plains.  Pizza, salad, beverages and dessert will be served.  Cost is $5 per person.  Reservations for Oct. 24 are appreciated by calling 1-908-232-5678, especially if free childcare is needed.

Dr. Grote will lead discussion on some of the themes from the book and ways to develop loving mature relationships.

There will be a break for Halloween and then discussions will resume on the book, “The Love Dare,” on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. at Fanwood Presbyterian Church and Saturday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. at Willow Grove Presbyterian Church.
