Police Pull Plane For Special Olympics

PERTH AMBOY—On Saturday, Sept. 26, members of the Perth Amboy Police Department and community representatives participated in the 13th annual Continental Airlines Plane Pull. This event benefits the New Jersey Special Olympics.

Forty-one teams of twenty from around the state competed to pull a Boeing 737 weighing over 93,000 pounds on the Continental Airlines tarmac at Newark Liberty International Airport. All proceeds collected by plane pull teams benefit Special Olympics New Jersey athletes and help foster the Special Olympics New Jersey mission.

The Perth Amboy team named, “Perth Amboy’s Finest,” placed first for the fastest pull with a time of 5.32 seconds.

The team was made up of the following individuals who not only raised funds for this special event, but volunteered their time to help this cause: Captain Benjamin Ruiz, Captain Luis Guzman, Lieutenant Roman McKeon, Sergeants Andy Montalvo, Luis Armas, Benjamin Salerno, and Miguel Pellot; Detectives Panagiotis Boulieris, Carlos Rodriguez, and Steven Petrosino; Officers Leonard Stavish, Joseph Sulikowski, David Formeza, Danny Gonzalez, Michael Polidura, Joseph Sassine, and Rene Harris; civilians, Miguel Garcia, Jason Lugo and William Jimenez.

Mayor Wilda Diaz said, “The City of Perth Amboy is most proud of these individuals and I congratulate all who participated in this wonderful event.”
