MIDDLESEX COUNTY – Raritan Bay Medical Center has released a calendar of public events, support groups and classes that will take place on the Pert Amboy and Old Bridge campuses in October.

OLD BRIDGE… Raritan Bay Medical Center is sponsoring an Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Caregivers Support Group meeting Monday, October 5, 6:30 to 8 p.m., at its Old Bridge campus.  Caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia are invited to attend. The meeting will be held in Auxiliary Hall C located on the lower level of the Medical Arts Building, adjacent to the hospital on Ferry Rd. between Routes 9 & 18.  Refreshments will be served.  Call (732) 324-4930 to register or for more information.

Anyone diagnosed with or caring for someone infected with HIV is welcome to attend.  Meetings are held at the hospital’s Perth Amboy campus, 530 New Brunswick Ave.  For time, location and to register, call (732) 324-5022.  Free and confidential rapid HIV testing is also provided by the medical center, with results known in 30 minutes. PERTH AMBOY… Raritan Bay Medical Center’s monthly tour of its Dr. Sam. Gordon Berkow Maternity Pavilion and family health information open house will be held Thursday, October 8, at 7 p.m.

Newly expectant parents are invited to take the tour and learn about the maternity unit’s modern comforts designed to provide a calm and relaxing birthing experience. As part of the event, information is provided in an open house format about child car seat safety, guided imagery and body mechanics training for use during labor, nutritional information for mother and child, how to pick a pediatrician and an infant CPR demonstration.

Participants are asked to meet in the main lobby of the hospital’s Perth Amboy campus, 530 New Brunswick Ave.  Registration suggested, call (732) 324-5300.

Raritan Bay Medical Center’s is sponsoring a Diabetes Support Group meeting Wednesday, October 14, 7 to 8 p.m. at the hospital’s Old Bridge campus, located on Ferry Rd. between routes 9 and 18.  Speaker Shagufta Yasmin, MS, RD, will discuss “The Food Pyramid.”  Support group leader Debbie Petrizzo, RN invites anyone coping with diabetes as well as their spouse or caregiver to attend, share experiences and learn the latest diabetes management information.  The program will be held in Auxiliary Hall B and C, lower level of the Old Bridge Medical Arts Building, adjacent to the medical center.  Participants determine discussion topics.  Meetings will be visited periodically by guest speakers to discuss important health topics. PERTH AMBOY… …Raritan Bay Medical Center’s Department of Integrative Medicine is offering a Wellness through Tai Chi program Thursdays, beginning October 15 through November 19. This program will teach participants how to improve muscle functioning in daily activities, increase energy, reduce stress and help prevent illness and injury.  The event will be held at the hospital’s Perth Amboy Campus in Raritan Rooms C & D, 7 to 8:30 p.m., 530 New Brunswick Ave.  Participants are asked to dress comfortably.
