CLARK – Arthur L. Johnson High School senior Kevin Walsh has been named the school’s Student of the Month for September.
Walsh is a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish National Honor Society and the Tri-M Music Honor Society. He was nominated to attend the National Youth Leaders Conference, the Presidential Youth Leadership Conference and the National Youth Leader Forum on Medicine. He is also on the National Honor Roll and a member of the National Forensic League.
Walsh is the recipient of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Award and served as a member of the Strategic Planning Committee. He was ALJ’s delegate to the American Legion Boys’ State and attended the New Jersey Association of Biomedical Research High School Summer Fellowship Program.
Walsh has been a member of the Key Club for four years, starting as a general member and then serving as a Sophomore Board member. He earned the Bronze Member Award (30 hours), the Silver Member Award (50 hours) and the Platinum Member Award (60 hours), with such activities as Relay for Life, which he co-chaired and raised $8,000.
As a member of the Science League, Walsh competed on the Biology I, Chemistry I and Physics I teams. While at ALJ, he was a member of the Speech & Debate Team, Spanish Club and Math League. Walsh plays the trumpet in the ALJ concert and marching bands and was a member of the orchestra for the spring musical.
Outside of school, Walsh is a Boy Scouts of America Star Scout and Life Scout. He has served as an Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader. He participated in the Boy Scouts of America High Adventure Trip – Rafting in the Grand Canyon and attended summer camp for two years at the Ockanickon Scout Reservation. He is a member of the Catholic Youth Organization and the CYO Core Team.
Walsh has served as a volunteer at Children’s Specialized Hospital and is currently in the Medical Mentor Program at Trinitas Hospital. He has traveled to Italy on a school trip and to Ireland for a family reunion. He is employed at Dairy Queen.
In his free time, Walsh enjoys reading Irish historical fiction, science fiction and action/adventure books. He participates in boating, camping, cycling, fishing, skiing and swimming.
After graduation, Walsh intends to go to college. He is interested in the College of New Jersey, Delaware, Johns Hopkins, Lehigh, Penn State, Rutgers, and the University of Scranton. He is the son of Maureen and John Walsh.
