Somerset Patriots Set To Start Atlantic League Championship Series

BRIDGEWATER—The Freedom Division Champion Somerset Patriots will take on the Liberty Division Champion Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in the Atlantic League Championship Series beginning with Game 1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 7:05 p.m.

The Patriots clinched the Freedom Division Championship by defeating the Newark Bears in the best-of-five Division Series three games to one.

Behind strong starting pitching by Jim Magrane, Joel Kirsten, and Brian Adams and clutch hitting by Matt Hagen, Sean Smith, and Elliott Ayala, the Patriots’ Drive For 5 continues.

The Patriots are looking for their fifth Atlantic League Championship in 12 seasons and are making their eighth appearance in the Championship Series. The Patriots are four-time champions in the league, winning in 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2008. They are the only team with more than two championships in league history.

The Patriots are also looking to become the first back-to-back champions in league history following a record breaking season that saw the team win 86 games, topping the league mark set by the 2001 Patriots at 83.
