LaVigne Named Acting Police Chief

SOUTH AMBOY – With Police Chief James Wallis on medical leave for an undetermined amount of time, Police Captain Darren LaVigne has been named the city’s acting police chief, according to Mayor John T. O’Leary.

LaVigne, 49, was named interim police chief last week. He has served on the force for 21 years.

“During my tenure as mayor, whenever the chief is out for an extended period of time, I allow the chief of police to pick who will run the department in his absence,” O’Leary said.

“The chief picked LaVigne for his various reasons and the administration has no problems with that.”
