EDISON – Township Police Director Brian Collier will step down from his post at the end of the year, he announced Monday.
Collier was appointed to the new position by Mayor Jun Choi last year amid controversy from opposition from Choi’s political opponents, some residents and the Edison Policemen Benevolent Association who opposed the creation of the civilian police director’s office.
The police director said that he “introduced innovation and accountability” during his tenure, but cited financial concerns as a reason for his decision.
“As this difficult financial year draws to a close, I believe it makes institutional and economic sense to eliminate my position,” Collier said in a prepared statement. “The department is on the right track, and my salary can be used to fund the initiatives that will give the department even more momentum to move forward on all fronts.”
