Calvary Lutheran Returns To Fall Schedule

CRANFORD—Calvary Lutheran Church will return to its fall and winter schedule beginning on Sunday, Sept. 27.

Sunday worship services, including a full liturgy and Holy Communion, will be offered at 8:30 and 10:15 a.m. Those attending either service will be able to enjoy a weekly coffee and fellowship time from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. between the services.

Calvary’s Sunday School schedule will change slightly this year with a new meeting time of 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.  A Rally Day celebration in Fellowship Hall on Sept. 27 at 9:30 a.m. will welcome Sunday School children ages three years old through seventh grade and their families back to a new year of education and worship.

As has become Calvary’s custom, at 10:30 a.m. Sunday School will conclude with the children entering church with their teachers for a special children’s sermon, before joining their families in worship.

Those children not attending worship will be released to their parents before entering the church.

Beginning on Oct. 4, the church also will offer a Sunday evening service at 5 p.m. in the Sanctuary.  This new service will include a brief spoken service and Holy Communion and a short meditation focused on the lessons and sermon of the morning services.

Continuing into the fall schedule will be the 1:15 p.m. Thursday afternoon worship service, which includes a brief spoken service and Holy Communion.  Lasting approximately 40 minutes, this service has great appeal to the congregation’s older members who cannot attend a morning service.

The fall’s activities also offer musical opportunities for participating in the adult, teen, hand-bell and children’s choirs.

Calvary Lutheran Church, 108 Eastman Street, Cranford, celebrated its 81st anniversary in September.  The church is a congregation of the New Jersey Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) serving the Cranford-Westfield area and surrounding communities

The Rev. Carol A. Lindsay is pastor.
