CLARK – What’s cool at the Clark Public Library? Sundays are once again Family Fun Days at the Clark Public Library. The library is now open from 1 to 5 p.m. every Sunday and will offer programs suitable for children and families each Sunday afternoon.
As part of the Sunday grand opening tradition, the library will host the third annual Penguin and Sundae program on Oct. 4. Clark residents are invited to see a live penguin, enjoy free ice cream sundaes and, of course, browse through a terrific collection of books and media. Besides watching the penguin waddle around, program attendees will learn about their care and habits.
“This is one of our most popular events and it’s a perfect way to introduce the community to our free, fun and educational programming,” say Tammy Lee, children’s librarian. “Since we began our Sunday hours two years ago the library has become a regular weekend destination for many families.”
This fall Sunday programs will include crafts such as a pumpkin painting contest as well as live performers, stories and movies. In addition, on the second Sunday of every month children are invited to spend time reading to a therapy dog. This is an excellent opportunity for reluctant or shy readers to open up to a set of nonjudgmental (and fuzzy) ears.
Due to the popularity of the penguin program, registration is mandatory. Adults and teens are welcome. You do not need to have children to attend the program. The 2 p.m. program is open to patrons who are 6 and older. The 3 p.m. program is open to all ages, though is best suited for children who are 3 or older. You may register online at www.clarklibrary.org or by calling 1-732-388-5999.
Every person attending (adults and children) must be registered and will be issued a ticket. Sundaes will be available only to those people who registered for the penguin program. Non-residents will be placed on a waiting list and will be notified if there are openings.
