History Comes To Life This Weekend

PERTH AMBOY – Actors portraying Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Edward Rutledge and a British hostage will walk from the Proprietary House located at 149 Kearny Avenue, Perth Amboy to the Raritan Yacht Club dock located at 161 Water Street on Saturday, Sept. 19 at noon.

Spectators should go to the waterfront on Front Street for a better view at the boardwalk.  There will be a brief ceremony and spectators will watch as the patriots are rowed to Staten Island, N.Y. just across the Raritan to the historic Conference House.  There they will meet with Admiral Lord Richard Howe to negotiate a peace plan to prevent the fighting for the Revolutionary War in a re-enactment of
events as they had originally unfolded in September 1776.

There will also be a colonial fair on the Staten Island side. There you will see the Tricorne Dancers from Hawthorne, the 4th Battalion NJ Volunteers from Washington, as well as other groups who will show kite building for children, outdoor cooking, and craft demonstrations

The rain date will be Sept. 20.  For further details, call Susan Fowler at the Conference House at 1-718-984-6046. Admission – payable at the Staten Island side – is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, students and children.  The event ends at 4 p.m.
