New Brunswick School Security Guard Arrested For Child Endangerment

NEW BRUNSWICK —  Police have arrested a New Brunswick elementary school security guard on charges of fondling and kissing a 13-year-old female student, Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and New Brunswick Police Director Anthony A. Caputo announced today.

Elpidio Cruz, 25,  was arrested Tuesday and was charged with a second degree count of endangering the welfare of a child, and a third degree count of aggravated criminal sexual contact, authorities said.

Cruz, who has been employed by the New Brunswick Board of Education since Sept. 20, 2005, was suspended without pay from his job at Roosevelt Elementary School on Livingston Avenue in New Brunswick, according to officials.

An investigation by Detective Daniel Dominguez, of the New Brunswick Police Department, and Investigator Michael Daniewicz and Investigator Jeffrey Maroccia, both of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, determined that Cruz had developed a friendship with the student when she attended Roosevelt school, and engaged in improper conduct with her at his home on a number of occasions between May 2009, and Sept. 8, 2009, authorities said.

Authorities are asking anyone with information on Cruz to call Dominguez at 1-732-745-5200, or Daniewicz or Maroccia at 1-732-745-3600.
