Nader is a founder of Single Payer Action, an activist group that is promoting comprehensive health insurance for Americans. In a recent essay posted on the group’s web site, he charges that single-payer health insurance — in which the government pays for care that is delivered by the private sector — would save money and lives, but that Democrats who have supported it in the past are balking now.

“The Democrats have the numbers and procedures to pass any kind of health reform this year, including single payer,” he writes. “But ‘it’s not practical’ because these politicians fear the insurance and pharmaceutical industries — and seek their campaign contributions — more than they fear the American people.”

Doors will open at 6:30 for the 7 p.m. talk. Seating is limited and must be reserved by e-mail request to mmcmahon@fdu.edu. The College at Florham is at 285 Madison Ave., Madison, N.J. 07940.
