EDISON—Statistics indicate that most older adults are safe drivers, but how do you determine when driving is no longer a safe option for your loved one?
Join Tracy Golpoor, MSW and Judi Gillingham, assistant director for aging, at a free presentation, “Green Light, Red Light, Giving Up the Car Keys” to be held on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Edison Senior Citizen Center, 2963 Woodbridge Avenue.
“Driving represents a sense of independence for many individuals,” explained Edison Mayor Jun H. Choi. But medical conditions, medication usage and reduced physical function can increase the risk of accidents and injuries in older adults. Giving up the car keys is often a difficult decision and brings with it a host of other concerns. I encourage our residents, including adult children and spouses of older adults, to attend this informative seminar to learn how they can begin the conversations needed to insure the safety of their loved ones, discuss the warning signs of driving problems and learn which support services available through Edison Township can help individuals make this transition from driver to passenger.”
Seating is limited. Light refreshments will be served. Advanced registration is required by calling the Edison Senior Citizen Center at 1-732-248-7345.
