WOODBRIDGE – Police arrested a Perth Amboy man in connection with a Fords shooting that left a Keyport man dead and his sister wounded, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office said this weekend.
Angel T. Torres, 35, was arrested at his home around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Assistant Middlesex County Prosecutor Nicholas Sewitch said. Torres was charged with murder and aggravated assault, authorities said.
Police arrested two 17-year-old boys in connection with the shooting last week. They were charged with conspiracy to commit murder and hindering apprehension, officials said. According to Sewitch, the prosecutor’s office is still determining whether to attempt to charge the teens as adults.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired at a first-floor apartment on Ryan Street belonging to Lourdes Diaz at 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 18. They found Diaz, 43, and her brother Angel Vazquez, 29, bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds. Vazquez was pronounced dead at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick at approximately 10:40 p.m. and Diaz was admitted in critical condition.
Prosecutors would not speculate on a motive for the shooting, but did not believe that it was random.
Authorities ask that anyone with information call Investigator Paul Miller of the prosecutor’s office at 732-745-4466, or Woodbridge police Detective Thomas Dellasala at 732-634-7700.
