FORDS – A Keyport man was shot to death inside the Ryan Street apartment of his sister, who was also critically injured in the shooting, authorities announced yesterday.
Woodbridge Police Chief William Trenery said that officers responded to a report of shots fired at approximately 9:28 p.m. on Aug. 18. The officers found Angel Vasquez, 29 and Lourdes Diaz, 43, ling on the kitchen floor with multiple gunshot wounds.
The victims were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, authorities said. Vasquez was pronounced dead at approximately 10:40 p.m. on Aug. 18, while Diaz was admitted in critical condition, authorities said.
The police do not believe this was a random shooting and are investigating the possibility that it was gang-related, according to Assistant Middlesex County Prosecutor Nicholas Sewitch. A joint investigation is being conducted by the Woodbridge Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, but no arrests have been made.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about this shooting to call Investigator Paul Miller of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745-4466 or Detective Thomas Dellasala of the Woodbridge Police Department at 732-634-7700.
