CLARK – The Union County Summer Arts Festival 2009 concert series continues on Wednesday evening, Aug. 19, with music by The Nerds. This free concert of rock and rollicking hit songs at Oak Ridge Park in Clark begins at 7:30 p.m.
The Nerds may look funny, but they play great. Their endearing brand of rock music and pop covers, injected with snippets of humor, has been a winning formula since the band was formed in 1985.
The band has been bouncing along for nearly 25 years on a whirlwind ride that has taken them from the Jersey Shore to the PNC Bank Arts Center and Carnegie Hall. Wherever they play – from Ship Bottom and Point Pleasant to convention halls and casinos – The Nerds combine their enthusiasm for music with their inventive renditions of hit tunes to keep their audiences satisfied.
This evening concert with The Nerds is sponsored by the Union County Democratic Committee.
The 2009 Summer Arts Festival weekly concert series will conclude on Wednesday evening, Aug. 26, beginning at 7:30 p.m., when The Sensational Soul Cruisers will perform at Echo Lake Park on the border of Mountainside and Westfield, sponsored by the Union County Education Association.
Lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets are encouraged. Refreshments and snacks will be available from vendors.
In case of rain, concerts will be held at the air-conditioned auditorium at Cranford High School, on West End Place off Springfield Avenue in Cranford at 7:30 p.m. For rain information, call the Union County Department of Parks and Community Renewal at (908) 558-4079 or visit the Union County web site: www.ucnj.org/parks/summerarts.html.
