PLAINFIELD—Members of the Union County Homicide Task Force have arrested a 21-year-old Plainfield man wanted in connection with the Sept. 24, 2008 shooting death of Quran Carter, Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow said Saturday.
Hassan Alexander, 31, was arrested without incident on Friday evening on the 1000 block of West 3rd Street in Plainfield. Following a through investigation that included the assistance of the Plainfield Police Department, Alexander was identified as the key suspect, said Romankow.
It was around 8:45 p.m. on Sept. 24, 2008 when officers were called to the 3rd Street and Monroe Avenue where they discovered Quran Carter, 31, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to Robert Wood University Medical Center in New Brunswick where he was pronounced dead around 9:06 p.m., said Romankow.
It appears at this time that the shooting was gang related, authorities said.
Alexander is being held on $1 million bail at the Union County Jail in Elizabeth and will have his first court appearance in the coming days.
