Metuchen Principal Winds Down 29-Year Career

METUCHEN – Campbell Elementary School Principal Robert Gugliara is winding down a 29-year career in the Metuchen school district as he prepares to officially retire Oct. 1.

Gugliara, who lives on Staten Island, joined the school district in 1980 as a history teacher at Metuchen High School. He became principal at the elementary school nine years later. During his 20-year tenure, the school doubled in size and currently serves 650 students.

The 62-year-old educator plans to work part time at Kean University, where he will help supervise student teachers, and spend more time with his family.
