SOUTH AMBOY-On Aug. 4, 1962, South Amboy Junior Olympics were held under the supervision of James Inman and under the sponsorship of the City’s Recreation Committee.

Some of the winners of the 48 prizes given out from this event were: Softball toss-ages 9 to 11 was Carolyn McCarthy, 2nd place, Betsy Chonsky and 3rd place Denise Clark. Handball toss for 7 year olds were: 1st place Lynn Zdanewicz, 2nd place Nancy Tice and 3rd place JoAnne Jankowski. 20 yard dash winners were: 1st place Lynn Zdanewicz, 2nd place Maureen Reddin and 3rd place JoAnne Jankowski. Gloria Statton won the 20 yard dash for 8 year olds.  The standing broad jump 9 to 11 year old winners were 1st place Mary Anne Baranowski, 2nd place Michelle Jackubczak and 3rd place Susan Stader. The 50 yard dash was won by Susan Stader, 2nd place Jean Norek and 3rd place Carolyn McCarthy. 50 yard dash for 12 to 14 year olds was won by Catherine Nebus, 2nd place Donna Vigilante and 3rd place Catherine Gosford. Softball toss 12 to 14 year olds was won by Margaret McCarthy and 2nd place Catherine Zrebiec.

The 9 to 11 boys running broad jump was some by Keith Tedesco, 2nd place John Holden and 3rd place Vincent Coakley. The 12 to 14 year old winners were: 1st place John Toris, 2nd place Donald Winnett and 3rd place Glenn White.  Winners for the 25 yard dash for 8 year olds were: 1st place John Richardson, 2nd place Dennis McCarthy and Ray Nebus. Winners for 7 year olds 25 yard dash were: 1st place Kevin Larsen, 2nd place Richard Krzyanowski, and 3rd place Kevin Nemeth. The 8 year olds baseball toss winners were: 1st place Dennis McCarthy, 2nd place Doug Buckalew and 3rd place Ray Nebus. The 50 yard dash 9 to 11 year olds winners were: 1st place Henry Larsen, 2nd place Roger White and 3rd place George Krzyanowski.
