It was hard to miss the enthusiasm gap between support for Governor Corzine and excitement about President Obama, who visited the Garden State to help the floundering Democratic campaign.
MSNBC’s Chuck Todd said there is a reason Obama made the trip early in the political season: “You don’t do a rally with 17,000 people in July unless you don’t want to be doing that rally with 17,000 people in October because you’re worried that guy is not going to win.”
This election is going to be a referendum on the dismal performance of Jon Corzine as governor and which alternative contender has the qualifications and integrity to truly represent change.
It is good that the president had an important message to deliver about the health care reform battle being waged in Washington, because otherwise the president would have merely wasted political capital.
