WOODBRIDGE – A former Woodbridge police officer admitted that he took nude and semi-nude photos of a 15-year-old girl he met while on duty, authorities said.
Douglas Karlson, 49, was found guilty of aggravated sexual assault and sexual assault against a teenage boy last month. Monday, he pleaded guilty to second-degree counts of official misconduct and endangering the welfare of a child for shooting the photos he took for his own benefit, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
He will be sentenced on Sept. 21 for both crimes. Under the terms of the plea bargain, Karlson will serve up to six years in prison for taking the photos. He faces up to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting the boy during the 1990s.
Karlson was tried three times on the sexual assault charges. The first trial resulted in a hung jury, and he was able to get his conviction overturned in the second case. His lawyer said that Karlson plans to appeal his latest conviction.
