RAHWAY—The Union County Performing Arts Center is offering a one-week theatre camp this summer.
This summer from Monday, Aug. 10 through Friday, Aug. 14, approximately 50 local students will be cast in Children’s Stage Adventures’ musical production of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Dream.
On Monday morning, Aug. 10, the team will hold an audition workshop to cast pre-registered students to perform in the production of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Dream. The audition will give participants an opportunity to put their “best foot forward” and places more emphasis on spirit, attitude and participation than talent. Nothing needs to be prepared for this workshop.
Children’s Stage Adventures’ Shakespeare’s Midsummer Dream is a musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s beloved romantic comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream. When four friends run away from their problems at home they end up in an even bigger mess in an enchanted forest inhabited by fairies, sprites and magic flowers. The madness gets even more mixed up when local workmen, practicing a play for the Duke’s wedding, stumble into the forest. Mistaken identity and mischievous practical jokes add to the laughs. The end of the play resolves all when the four friends return home for the royal wedding of Duke Theseus and Hippolyta, an amazon queen.
The show is rehearsed throughout the week. Rehearsals will be conducted from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. every day of the week prior to performances. Although not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire week, and if selected, be able to attend all rehearsals for their role. A detailed schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of auditions.
At the end of the week, as if by magic, a high-quality musical production of this classic tale is performed by approximately 50 local students; complete with professionally designed scenery and costumes, props and makeup, and sound and lighting equipment.
This program is appropriate for children ages 5 through 18. Pre-registration is required. Download the registration form at www.ucpac.org or call 732-499-8226 to have one mailed to you. Registration may also be completed in person at the UCPAC box office located at 1601 Irving Street, Rahway. The box office is open Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Register before Aug. 1 and pay $175 per child; after July 31, pay $200 per child. Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
