N.Y. Fish Inc. is recalling packages of I “Heart” N.Y. Fish brand smoked salmon—sold in New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Connecticut, Maryland, and several other states—because they could be contaminated with listeria (AP story).
This is yet another reminder that eating fish can be as hazardous to humans as it is to the fish. Fish flesh is frequently tainted with a toxic brew of bacteria, contaminants, and heavy metals, and none of it should be considered safe to eat.
