Men Impersonate Police Officers To Rob Newark Couple

ELIZABETH – Two men who impersonated police officers broke into a hotel room and robbed a Newark couple of $500 on Friday morning, police said.

Officers responded to a reported robbery at the Spring Lane Motel. A 30-year-old man and his 24-year-old girlfriend were held at gunpoint at approximately 7 a.m., after two men knocked on their door and identified themselves as police, authorities said.

The suspects rushed into the room after the man opened the door, police said. The victims handed over a total of $500 after one of the suspects threatened them with a gun and told them they were being robbed, police said.

A hotel clerk observed the suspects running towards a brown van and speeding out of the parking lot, authorities said.
