NEW BRUNSWICK—New York Blood Center will hold about two dozen blood drives in July as part of Bloodstock, a regional effort by local students to help save lives and earn scholarships for their hard work.
Local blood drives will be held in conjunction with New Jersey Blood Services on the following dates and times:
July 2 from 2 to 6:30 p.m. at East Brunswick Library, 2 Jean Walling Civic Center, East Brunswick
July 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at South Plainfield Senior Citizens Center, 90 Maple Ave., South Plainfield
July 18 from noon to 5 p.m. at YMCA Westfield, 2nd Floor, 220 Clark Street, Westfield
July 27 from 2:30 to 8 p.m. at East Brunswick Jewish Center, 511 Ryders Lane, East Brunswick
Blood donation saves lives – every pint of whole blood has the potential to save three lives. The need for blood and platelets is always constant. These are perishable products, and there is an endless flow of patients who need these transfusions.
Students who independently organize and introduce a new blood drive within their community may earn a $250 scholarship if the drive yields at least 30 blood donations and $500 if that blood drive yields 50 or more blood donations. All scholarships are made payable to the student’s choice of college.
To schedule your own blood drive, contact Marie Forrestal at 732-220-7184 or Mforrestal@nybloodcenter.org.
