LINDEN – Police arrested two Elizabeth men who allegedly burglarized a car in the area of East Linden Avenue and Ashton Avenue last week.
On Tuesday, June 23, Elizabeth police apprehended Ricardo Rivera Paniagua, age 23, and Johany Lazu Feliciano, age 32, both of Elizabeth, who allegedly burglarized a 1994 Chevrolet wagon. The suspects had an iPod® in their possession that the vehicle owner identified as her property, officials said.
The Elizabeth police officers were responding to a call from an eyewitness who believed that the vehicle was located in Elizabeth at the time of the burglary, authorities said. Shortly after 3:30 p.m., the officers turned the suspects over to Linden police.
Paniagua and Feliciano were charged with criminal mischief, burglary, and theft, according to authorities. Bail was set at $37,500 for each suspect and both were transferred to the Union County Jail.
The Linden Police Department said that vehicle burglaries are on the rise and advised residents to take steps to minimize the chances becoming a victim.
You should always lock your doors, activate your alarm system (if you have one) and either conceal or remove any valuables, especially electronic items (GPS units), when leaving the vehicle unattended, police said.
