FANWOOD – The Fanwood Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Tri-County Red Cross will host a joint training drill on Sunday, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Fanwood’s Forest Road Park.
The drill, which will also involve area Red Cross chapters and CERTs from surrounding communities, is being sponsored by Allstate New Jersey Insurance Company.
This drill will provide an opportunity for these volunteer responders to work together on a functional exercise focusing on the first hours of a shelter being opened. The park will remain open to the public, but selected areas such as the parking lot, basketball court and the skate park will be closed.
Residents who live around the park may notice additional vehicles and emergency responder activity. They should not be alarmed, as this is only a drill. Residents and others should not call 9-11 regarding this drill. More details about this drill can be found at the Fanwood CERT’s web site –www.FanwoodCERT.org
American Red Cross chapters are required by state and local law and emergency plans to be able to shelter 10 percent of the population in the event of a significant disaster. Red Cross and CERT volunteers are key to developing this capability, and must exercise their plans and skills to remain ready.
