CARTERET—The borough will be a participating sponsor in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program for 2009, Mayor Daniel J. Reiman and the Carteret Board of Health announced. The program provides children under 18 with free meals in accordance with a menu approved by the state.
The 2009 Summer Food Service Program will run from July 6 to Aug. 14. Lunches will be served at Carteret Park’s hot house, Sul Avenue, (weather permitting); the Housing Authority Community Center, 1 Bergen Street; Columbus School, 1 Carteret Avenue; and Favor Ministries, 1508 Roosevelt Avenue from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. weekdays.
Disabled residents of all ages will be welcome to participate as well.
“This program will allow our children to go about their summer routines without sacrificing a healthy diet,” Reiman said, “and provide the opportunity to develop good eating habits that can last a lifetime.”
