EDISON – Ray Koperwhats, a former town councilman who was unopposed in the GOP primary this month, dropped out of the Edison mayoral race last week.

According to Sylvia Engel, chairwoman of the Edison Republican Committee, the move was made for “personal and unforeseen reasons.” The committee has until Sept. 14 to replace him.

The GOP nominee will face Councilwoman Antonia Ricigliano, who defeated Mayor Jun Choi for the Democratic nomination. Joseph Coyle, Peter Cerrato and Inder “Andy” Soni are also running as independent candidates.

Registered Democrats outnumber Republicans 25,536 to 6,102 in Edison.
