MADISON—Three local students earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Drew University at the school’s 141st commencement on May 16:

  • Colin Joseph Kanach of Clark
  • Katherine L. Mulligan of Clark
  • Kimy Yeung of Rahway

Gerald Stern, New Jersey’s first poet laureate and a winner of the National Book Award, spoke to students at the ceremony along with Drew President Robert Weisbuch.

Stern, who read several poems at the ceremony, stressed the importance of helping the world’s less fortunate. He said: “I would like to think you should give yourself to feeling first, to love, to generosity beyond your means, and to the protection of and help for the unprotected and the helpless.”
