PERTH AMBOY—Starting next month, closing time at city bars will come an hour earlier. The Perth Amboy City Council unanimously approved a measure banning the sale of alcohol after 2 a.m. last week.
The new regulation stops the sale of alcohol between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m., Monday through Saturday, and between 2 a.m. and noon on Sundays. The move affects more than 60 businesses in the city, according to officials. Most neighboring towns require bars to close by 2 a.m., with Woodbridge the only exception allowing bars to stay open until 3 a.m.
Most business owners were not pleased with the decision, saying that their businesses would be hurt by the shortened hours.
