CLARK – Arthur L. Johnson High School has announced the winners of the Student of the Month, Teacher of the Month and Crusader Award for June.
Senior Erin Closs is the Student of the Month. She is ranked ninth in her class and is the secretary of the National Honor Society. While at ALJ, Closs has contributed articles to The Crusader and The Lance. She is also a member of the Spanish National Honor Society, the Key Club and DECA.
For four years, Closs has been a member of the school’s soccer team; she played at the varsity level for the past two years. She also played for the softball team for two years. Closs works at the Village Insurance Agency in Clark.
Closs plans to attend the University of Connecticut and major in accounting or finance. She is the daughter of Nancy and Peter Closs.
Frank Wagenblast was selected as the Teacher of the Month. He began teaching at ALJ in 2006 as a student teacher under the supervision of David Fosco. He was hired full time the next year.
At ALJ, Wagenblast has taught Psychology, A.P. Psychology, U.S. History II and World Cultures. He also coaches boys basketball at Kumpf Middle School and is the co-advisor to the Class of 2011.
Senior Doris Fakeh won the Crusader Award. She moved to the United States from Egypt in 2007. Fakeh is a member of the French Honor Society and enjoys basketball, reading, singing and listening to music. She has worked as a counselor at summer Bible camps.
After graduation, Fakeh plans to attend Kean University and major in computer engineering. She is the daughter of Ferial Salem and Khalil Fakeh.
