Police Investigate Rahway’s First Homicide Of 2009

RAHWAY – Authorities are investigating the killing of a 24-year-old Rahway woman who was found dead in her West Main Street apartment Friday.

City police officers discovered the body of Jennea Workman shortly before 9 a.m. on May 8, after getting called to the Cambridge Court apartment at West Main Street and Elizabeth Avenue, authorities said.  Investigators were continuing to conduct interviews and canvass the area around the crime scene Monday, officials said.

A makeshift memorial featuring candles, balloons and stuffed toys sprung up around a tree in front of Cambridge Court Monday.

The Union County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the homicide. No further details were available Monday.

The killing is the first in Rahway this year. According to state police statistics, there were no homicides in Rahway last year and only 90 violent crimes, mostly robberies.

Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for the killing.
