roller-skate MIDDLESEX COUNTY— Residents of all ages and abilities can now take advantage of the County’s open-air, family roller skating rink in Roosevelt Park in Edison, the latest recreational offering from the Middlesex County Department of Parks and Recreation.

The rink is open now through June 28. It will be closed July and August and reopen Sept. 4 through Oct. 25.

“The roller rink proved to be a big hit with our residents in its first two seasons and we expect to have an even bigger season this year,” said Freeholder Director Stephen J. “Pete” Dalina, chair of the County’s Parks and Recreation Committee.

A special surface ideal for roller skating was installed at the family ice skating rink to offer residents year-round recreation at the site.

Hours of operation are:

Friday: 5 to 9 p.m.

Saturday: 5 to 9 p.m.

Sunday: noon to 3 p.m. (session 1) and 4 to 7 p.m. (session 2)

Monday to Thursday: No general admission skating, but available for private rentals and birthday parties.

Admission is $3 per session per person. Discounted group admission rates are: $2 per skater for groups of 50 or more and $2.50 per skater for groups of 10 to 49. Skate rental is $2. Lesson packages are available for purchase. For safety purposes the Parks Department recommends wearing a helmet if you are a beginner. All children under 10 years of age must wear a helmet. Helmets can be purchased for $8.

The Parks Department also recommends calling if there has been rain within the past 24 hours, as the roller rink surface might not be dry enough to skate on. A concession stand will be open.

The rink also is available for birthday parties and private functions, even during July and August.

For information or to book a private function, call 732-494-4484 or visit the Parks and Recreation web site at www.co.middlesex.nj.us/parksrecreation.

The rink, which is 185-by-85-feet in size, is on the lakeside of the “Level Playing Fields” complex, adjacent to the scenic Roosevelt Park Lake. A multi-purpose building, which houses rest rooms, vending machines, locker rentals, and offices for rink visitors and staff, is located at the site.
