Newark Museum Plans Presidents’ Day Open House

NEWARK – The lasting legacy of Abraham Lincoln will highlight the annual Presidents’ Day celebration at the Newark Museum on Monday, Feb. 16.

Activities from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. are highlighted by a special family workshop:  Celebrate the 200th Birthday of Abraham Lincoln: A Living Legacy for You and Me.   Families will explore the life and accomplishments of the 16th President of the United States, thought by many to be our greatest, through original works of art as well as coins and other currency.

Additional programming during the Museum’s Presidents Day celebration features a performance at 2 p.m. by Journeys with Sound, a musical group that entertains using instruments from around the world, such as the Indian snake charmer, deer-hoof rattles and Persian ney.   The performance reaches beyond cultural boundaries proving that music is one of the most powerful forms of expression and communication.

Special Planetarium programs for the Presidents’ Day Celebration include SkyQuest at 1 and 3 p.m.; Hubble Vision at 2 p.m. and New Jersey Skies at 4 p.m.
